INEC Extends Deadline for Political Parties to Upload 2027 Candidate Details

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has pushed back the deadline for political parties to complete the upload of their candidates’ details, moving it from midnight Saturday, July 11 to midnight Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The commission announced the extension in a statement signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.

According to INEC, the extension came after an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), acting on behalf of parties that were unable to finish uploading their candidates’ information within the original window. The commission said the decision was consistent with its commitment to inclusivity in the electoral process while still operating within legal timelines.

The development comes as political parties across Nigeria ramp up preparations for the 2027 general elections, with several states already seeing contested primaries and internal party disputes over candidate selection. INEC has said it will publish the particulars of presidential and National Assembly candidates in the coming weeks, giving the public an early look at who will be on the ballot.
